- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (preferably 80/20)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 4 burger buns (brioche or sesame seed buns recommended)
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 1 large onion, sliced
- Pickles, for added crunch
- Iceberg lettuce leaves
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise or burger sauce
- Optional: crispy bacon, jalapeños, or grilled mushrooms
Instructions
- Start by dividing the ground beef into four equal portions. Gently shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent bubbling during cooking. Season each patty generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium, or longer if you prefer well done. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each burger to melt perfectly.
- While the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the buns until golden brown. Prepare your toppings — slice onions, wash lettuce leaves, and arrange pickles and other extras. Spread mayonnaise or burger sauce on the buns to add flavor and moisture.
- Place the bottom bun on a plate, layer with lettuce, followed by the cheese-topped burger patty. Add onions, pickles, and any additional toppings you fancy. Top with the upper bun and press gently to secure everything in place. Enjoy the perfectly assembled Crack Burger.
