- 2 smoked ham hocks
- 1 whole chicken (cut into pieces)
- 2 cups of chicken broth
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Season the smoked ham hocks with smoked paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- In a large pot, heat olive oil and sautรฉ the onions, carrots, celery, and minced garlic until tender.
- Add seasoned ham hocks and chicken pieces, followed by chicken broth, and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Cover and cook for 1.5 to 2 hours until chicken is tender.
- Remove ham hocks and serve with chicken; adjust seasoning if necessary.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- This dish can also be frozen for longer storage.
- Serve with sides like cornbread, coleslaw, or roasted vegetables.
