  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (28 ounces each) San Marzano crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sautรฉ the chopped onions until translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant. Stir in the San Marzano crushed tomatoes, sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Add the dried oregano and basil, stirring well, and allow to simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes.
  4. Once thickened and flavors melded, taste and adjust seasoning as necessary. Your sauce is now ready!
