Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup warm water
- Oil for frying
- Honey and powdered sugar for serving
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add vegetable oil and warm water, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth, then cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut it into triangles or rounds.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Fry the dough pieces until they puff up and turn golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm, drizzled with honey and dusted with powdered sugar.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature, or freeze for up to a month.
- Puffy golden sopapillas can be enjoyed plain, with fillings, or as a dessert.
- Ensure frying oil is hot enough for best results.
