Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
- ½ cup warm milk
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
- Oil for frying
- Frosting of your choice
- Sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
- Combine warm milk and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- Transfer dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and roll out to about ½ inch thickness. Use a donut cutter to cut out donuts and place them on a floured baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add donuts and fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and place on a cooling rack.
- Once cooled, frost with icing and top with colorful sprinkles for decoration.
Notes
- Store frosted donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Un-frosted donuts can be frozen for up to a month; just wrap them tightly.
- Pair well with morning coffee or tea, perfect for gatherings.
