Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sourdough discard, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Mix well, then add the eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Combine until smooth and creamy.
- Add the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic (about 5-7 minutes).
- Cover the dough with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to about ½ inch thick. Use a donut cutter to shape the donuts.
- Fry the donuts in hot oil (about 350°F) until golden brown on both sides. Let cool on a paper towel-lined plate.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- For freezing, place parchment paper between each donut to avoid sticking.
- For a healthier option, consider baking the donuts at 375°F for about 10-12 minutes.
