Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm location for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out one portion into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface.
  5. Spread a layer of crushed tomatoes over the dough, leave edges clear for the crust, and add mozzarella and basil.
  6. Drizzle with olive oil, then preheat your oven to 500ยฐF (260ยฐC) with a pizza stone inside if available.
  7. Bake the pizza for 10-15 minutes until crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbly. Let it cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.
