I have miso all the time in my fridge. I have all the components to make this soup. I have roasted sweaters from Trader Joe’s with sea salt, could I sub that out? Also where do you get the packets?
I just made the pork and veggie soup but as I didn't have pork, I just opted for a veggie version. I'm sure the pork adds a super nice flavor and depth but it was also wonderful without. Thank you! Also, every since I discovered your channel, I've been having miso soup daily and my body loves it 🙂

I may have commented on this one before, but as we have been making miso soup for a solid year now I wanted to update how we do it. Especially now that we are no longer in Japan. My technique is simply to use whatever vegetables I have, so it varies in flavor a lot. However here in England we have less variety I believe, than we did in Japan. So my go to basic for miso soup is mushroom, spring onion/leek, and soft tofu. (We cannot find silken tofu in England hence far).
I make “miso jars” for my husband to take to work every day. He loves aburaage , green onion, wakame and a little bit of leftover rice. I put it all in a mason jar with a tablespoon of miso paste and 1/2 a teaspoon of dashi powder. At work he just adds steaming water and mixes it all up! Homemade “instant” miso soup! (I just asked him if he would like me to put a little cabbage in this week!)

Can you just use the regular soy beverage sold at store? Or is this a specific soy milk for cooking like we have with coconut milk?? Would love brand recommendations to buy for soy milk!
I make homemade dashi with Kombu and Shitake. Miso Soup every day too (Vegan version)! I prefer the white/yellow miso. I've never thought of adding soy milk! and am going to try that. For some of my winter miso soups I add daikon, spinach and chestnuts! I find chestnuts an amazing addition 🙂 Thank you!!
